Two months ago, the music world was abuzz with news that hip-hop producer Timbaland would be producing Adult Contemporary Queen Celine Dion’s new album, or at least, tracks on it. This piece of information quickly digressed into discussions about the notion of cool, and whether the producer had lost his credibility in the eyes of fans, or whether the singer was desperately seeking the cool-stamp of the cool-folk.

Fact is, Timbaland’s tracks remained on the cutting room floor. According to the list of producers at this source, the producer’s name is nowhere to be seen. And this unsourced quote from Celine would seem to support the idea that the Timbaland tracks didn’t pass muster:

“It must not be too edgy. It must be comforting. So I’m not going to change.”

Still, in the same piece, Timbaland enthuses over Celine:

“Celine has such a beautiful, mesmerising voice,” Timbaland told Elle magazine. “She is so talented. I think we could create something that is a classic like she already is.”

Maybe in some distant future these unreleased tracks will see the light of day.
