“1, 2, 3, and to the 4…”
October 10, 2007
Hip-Hop exploded throughout the five boroughs this weekend as New York City hosted the 4th Annual VH1 Hip-Hop Honors giving props to A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott, and Whodini.
As I watched hip-hop enthusiasts, stylers and profilers rock the Hammerstein Ballroom from my 13” television, my heart ached for the current state of the genre. Performances hearkened back to an era where I couldn’t wait to turn on the radio.
Favorite Moments of the Night:
- Teddy Riley and Chauncey Black reminded me of that New Jack Swing sound and what it felt like as a 7-year-old jammin’ to “Rump Shaker.” One could not help but get wild when the horn introduction of the track dropped.
- Snoop Dogg and Bow Wow reunited on the stage for “What’s My Name?”
“I give props to Hip-Hop so Hip-Hop hooray…”
Feel free to give props…or not.
