CMJ 2007

October 16, 2007

Today marked the beginning of the CMJ 2007 Music Marathon and Film Festival in Greenwich Village. Enjoy the festivities, it’s only once a year!

Radiohead is taking a step in a new direction with the release of their new album In Rainbows.   The band is currently without a record label, so they decided to take distribution into their own hands.  Their new album is available via their website, and those who want the album can pay whatever they want.  If they don’t want to pay, that’s fine too.

With the seeming collapse of the record industry, it’s very possible many bands will take this route.  After all, fans will pay to hear from their favorites bands.  This way there’s no middle man.  No fat record executive driving his Cadillac to the office laughing at how much a band he will never care to listen to makes his six figures.

Who knows what the “sales” figures will look like?
